Le trésor de la grenouille

The frog’s treasure

Il était une fois une petite grenouille Pitchou qui vivait sous un tas de feuilles, près d’une mare, dans la forêt de Fontainebleau.
Chaque fin de semaine, la forêt était pleine de promeneurs qui venaient là, pour se détendre et pique-niquer.
Un lundi matin, Pitchou trouva un journal oublié. Elle y lut :
« Le trésor du château de Fontainebleau a disparu ! »
Un trésor ? Disparu ? En voilà une nouvelle ! Pitchou, très intéressée par ce trésor, décida de partir à sa recherche.
Once upon a time there was a little frog called Pitchou who lived under a pile of leaves, near a pond, in the forest of Fontainebleau. At the end of each week, the forest was full of walkers who came here to relax and to have a picnic.
One Monday morning, Pitchou found a lost newspaper. She read in it:
“The palace of Fontainebleau’s treasure has disappeared!”
A treasure? Disappeared? Here’s news. Pitchou was really interested in this treasure and decided to go and look for it.
Sautant de rocher en rocher, Pitchou se dirigea vers le marché de la ville où elle aperçut une grand-mère en train de faire ses courses avec son panier.
- Où sautes-tu donc ainsi, grenouille - grenouillette ?
- Je pars à la recherche du trésor du château de Fontainebleau. Bientôt je serai la grenouille la plus riche de toute la forêt et je pourrai m’acheter des chaussures à talons.
- Emmène-moi avec toi, je rêve d’aventures et je suis très gentille .
- Oh, tu as l’air si vieille, tu vas me ralentir. Je préfère poursuivre ma quête seule.
Hopping from rock to rock Pitchou headed towards the market in the town where she saw a grandmother with her basket doing her shopping.
“Where are you hopping to like that, frog - little froggie?”
“I am seeking the lost treasure of Fontainebleau’s palace.
Soon I will be the richest frog in the whole of the forest and I will be able to buy myself high-heeled shoes.”
“Take me with you! I’ve always dreamed of going on an adventure and I am very nice.”
“Oh! You look so old; you are going to slow me down. I prefer to continue my
quest by myself.”
Continuant sa course, Pitchou se dirigea vers le cinéma où elle aperçut une princesse sur l’écran en train de danser au bal.
- Où sautes-tu donc ainsi, grenouille – à casquette ?
- Je pars à la recherche du trésor du château de Fontainebleau. Bientôt je serai la grenouille la plus riche de toute la ville de Fontainebleau et je pourrai louer une salle immense pour faire la fête.
- Emmène-moi avec toi, je rêve d’aventures et je suis grande.
- Oh, tu n’as pas l’air si grande, tu vas me ralentir. J’ai déjà refusé l’aide de la grand-mère du marché.
Je préfère poursuivre ma quête
seule.
Continuing on her way, Pitchou headed towards the cinema where she spotted a princess on the screen dancing at a ball.
“Where are you hopping to like that, frog – so pretty?”
“I am seeking the lost treasure of Fontainebleau’s palace.
Soon I will be the richest frog in the whole of Fontainebleau and I will be able to rent an immense room to have a party.”
“Take me with you! I’ve always dreamed of going on an adventure and I am big.”
“Oh! You don’t look that big; you are going to slow me down.
I’ve already refused the help of the grandmother at the market.
I prefer to
continue my quest by myself.”
Continuant sa course, Pitchou se dirigea vers le manège où elle aperçut un cheval de bois en train de tourner et de tourner .
- Où sautes-tu donc ainsi, grenouille – si chouette ?
- Je pars à la recherche du trésor du château de Fontainebleau. Bientôt je serai la grenouille la plus riche de toute l’Ile-de-France et je pourrai partir en vacances à la plage.
- Emmène-moi avec toi, je rêve d’aventures et je suis très patient.
- Oh, tu as l’air si lent, tu vas me ralentir. J’ai déjà refusé l’aide de la grand-mère du marché et de la princesse du cinéma.
Je préfère poursuivre ma
quête seule.
Continuing on her way, Pitchou headed towards the merry-go-round where she spotted a wooden horse, which was turning around and around.
“Where are you hopping to like that, frog - so happy?”
“I am seeking the lost treasure of Fontainebleau’s palace.”
Soon I will be the richest frog in the whole of the Ile–de–France and I will be able to go on vacation at the beach.”
“Take me with you! I’ve always dreamed of going on an adventure and I am patient.”
“Oh! You look so slow; you are going to slow me down.
I’ve already refused the help of the grandmother at the market and the
princess at the cinema. I prefer to continue my quest by myself.”
Continuant sa course, Pitchou se dirigea vers le théâtre où elle aperçut un danseur en train de s’échauffer.
- Où sautes-tu donc ainsi, grenouille – à clochette ?
- Je pars à la recherche du trésor du château de Fontainebleau. Bientôt je serai la grenouille la plus riche de toute la France et je pourrai m’acheter une belle maison.
- Emmène-moi avec toi, je rêve d’aventures et je suis souple.
- Oh, tu n’as pas l’air si rapide, tu vas me ralentir. J’ai déjà refusé l’aide de la grand-mère du marché, de la princesse du cinéma et du cheval de bois du manège.
Je préfère poursuivre ma quête seule.
Continuing on her way, Pitchou headed towards the theatre where she met a dancer, who was warming up.
“Where are you hopping to like that, frog – so jolly?”
“I am seeking the lost treasure of Fontainebleau’s palace. Soon I will be the richest frog in the whole of France and I will be able to buy a nice house.”
“Take me with you! I’ve always dreamed of going on an adventure and I am supple.”
“Oh! You do not look very quick; you are going to slow me down. I’ve already refused the help of the grandmother at the market, of the princess at the cinema and the help of the wooden horse from the merry-go-round. I prefer to continue my quest by myself.”
Arrivée à la grande grille dorée du château, Pitchou, toute excitée, était bien décidée à en savoir plus sur cette disparition de trésor. Elle se tourna alors vers l’un des aigles majestueux qui
gardent l’entrée et lui dit :
- Bonjour petit oiseau, je suis Pitchou, la grenouille la plus courageuse et bientôt la plus riche de toute l’Europe . Que sais-tu de ce trésor perdu ?
L’aigle d’or resta silencieux.
Arrived at the palace’s big golden gate, Pitchou, all excited, was determined to know more about this treasure’s disappearance. She turned to one of the majestic eagles, which was guarding the entry, and said:
“Hello little bird, I am Pitchou, the bravest and soon the richest frog in the whole of Europe. What do you know about this lost treasure?”
The golden eagle stayed silent.
Dépitée, elle continua vers l’étang où elle s’adressa à une énorme carpe.
- Bonjour petit poisson, je suis Pitchou, la grenouille la plus courageuse et bientôt la plus riche de toute la Terre. Que sais-tu de ce trésor perdu ?
La carpe resta muette.
Vexed, she continued towards the pond where she spoke to an enormous carp:
“Hello little fish, my name is Pitchou, the bravest and soon the richest frog in the whole world. What do you know about this lost treasure?”
The carp didn’t answer.
Bien déçue, elle se tourna vers une gargouille à qui elle dit :
- Bonjour petit lézard, je suis Pitchou, la grenouille la plus courageuse et bientôt la plus riche de tout l’Univers. Que sais-tu de ce trésor perdu ?
Disappointed she turned towards a gargoyle to whom she said:
“Hello little lizard, I am Pitchou, the bravest and soon the richest frog in the whole universe.
What do you know about this lost treasure?”
La gargouille, d’abord immobile, se transforma bientôt en dragon et lança un feu d’artifice multicolore.
The gargoyle, first remained still, then transformed herself into a dragon and let fly a multi-coloured display of fireworks.
Pitchou, horrifiée, commença à réaliser que la ville était un monde de danger pour une petite grenouille. Ce dragon aurait pu la brûler, la griller ou même l’emprisonner.
Elle se mit à renifler, à pleurer et à regretter d’avoir refusé l’aide de la grand-mère, de la princesse, du cheval de bois et du danseur. Elle se sentait si petite et si seule !
Alors, le dragon, plus impressionnant que méchant, la prit sur son dos, survola toute la ville de Fontainebleau et la déposa dans la forêt.
Pitchou, horrified, started to realise that the town was a world of dangers for a little frog.
This dragon could have burnt her, grilled her or even imprisoned her.
She started to sniff, to cry and to regret having refused help from the grandmother, the princess, the wooden horse and the dancer. She felt so little and so alone!
Then the dragon, more impressive than evil, put her on his back, flew over the whole of Fontainebleau and left her in the forest.
Pitchou retrouva son doux tas de feuilles, sa jolie mare et surtout sa liberté. Dès le lendemain de son aventure, elle invita ses amis de la ville.
La grand-mère arriva de bon matin, toute chargée de gâteaux croustillants. Dans un magnifique carrosse la princesse, vêtue d’une longue robe blanche pailletée, le cheval de bois accompagné de tous les animaux du manège, et enfin le danseur, toute sa troupe et ses musiciens les rejoignirent, au bord de la mare. L'aigle doré et le dragon survolèrent la ville jusqu’à la forêt. Personne ne sut comment la carpe parvint à la mare, mais dès qu’elle arriva, la fête commença.
Pitchou avait gagné le plus beau des trésors : l’amitié et à son tour, elle pouvait offrir aux autres le plaisir de découvrir un petit coin de nature encore calme et protégé !
Pitchou found herself back in her pile of leaves, at her pond and with her freedom once more. The very next day she invited her friends from the town.
The grandmother came early the next morning loaded down with crunchy cakes. In a magnificent coach was the princess, wearing a long, white robe covered with glitter; the wooden horse, with all the animals from the merry-go-round, and the dancer, his entire troupe and his musicians all joined them on the banks of the pond. The golden eagle and the dragon flew over the town to the forest. Nobody knew how the carp found its way to the pond, but as soon as it arrived the party began.
Pitchou had won the most beautiful of treasures: friendship and in return she could share with the others the happiness of finding a small part of nature still calm and unspoilt.
